What the map does not say

The counties of Arizona are nowhere near the same size. Coconino County covers 18,616 sq mi of land, 15.1 times the 1,236 sq mi of Santa Cruz County. People are spread even less evenly: Maricopa County packs 510 per sq mi while La Paz County holds 3.7 per sq mi.

They were not drawn in one sitting either. Yuma County dates to 1864, and the boundaries were still being redrawn when La Paz County was organised in 1983, 119 years later. Founding years come from Wikidata and are worth checking against the county's own history before citing.
